Memorial Day

This day should honor current and past veterans.  As the culture in the United States diversified, so too the meaning of Memorial Day.  It’s not a day that gives everyone a 3 day pass to party.  Although many will party and celebrate, make no bones about it there is no celebration when we still have ongoing conflicts across the globe. Our young men and women are in harm’s way and it seems the carnage from the Civil War hasn’t taught us any lessons. Approximately 620,000 soldiers died from combat, accident, starvation, and disease during the Civil War. Death, conflict and fighting for causes that are still a mystery to many will continue unabated until we truly remember the carnage and disruption that is caused by such acts.

Memorial Day.

I came across this site and the statistics are staggering.  I’ve looked at and researched some of the links. You should do the same. http://necrometrics.com/warsusa.htm. It’s a worldwide issue let’s hope humanity gets a clue.

War and carnage caused should be everyone’s issue.  We’ve trivialized the meaning and remembrances into what kind of sales, how big the BBQ will be and damn, I’m glad I’m out of school for the summer. I’m not even sure anymore if the wars fought abroad has made us any safer.  NOPE.

This quote talks about taking our fight to the aggressors. But what about the aggressors from home spun terrorism that has overshadowed and darkened many casual events that we’ve all seen in the news.

“What the American people want to do is fight a war without getting hurt. You can’t do that anymore than you can get into a barroom fight without getting hurt… Unless the American people are willing to send their sons out to fight an aggressor, there just isn’t going to be any United States.” Chesty Puller

Once a Marine always a Marine. I was and still am a Marine. I will defend and protect my family as we all should. I will remember my fallen brothers and family with the grace they deserve by keeping alive the also memory of the carnage and destruction caused by everyone’s war.   We’re not playing a game of “Risk”.
